Oracle-based Business Intelligence Systems

Oracle Business Intelligence technologies

Thanks to advanced technologies companies today are able to store the full volume of business performance data. However, the accumulation of a huge amount of information is only reasonable when it can be efficiently used to get insight of the ongoing processes, to identify trends and, ultimately, to make sound business management decisions.

Oracle BI platform currently represents the most sophisticated integrated solution for data warehousing and efficient use of accumulated corporate information. Oracle offers the best tools and technologies designed both by the corporation itself and by recently acquired companies — Siebel, Hyperion and Sunopsis.

The data warehousing and relational data processing environment is composed of Oracle Database Enterprise Edition with Partitioning options, OLAP interactive dashboards and Data Mining (Data Mining algorithm libraries).

To build multidimensional data warehouses Hyperion Essbase OLAP server (one of the best products in its class) may be used. Oracle Warehouse Builder (for Oracle platform-based warehouses) and Oracle Data Integrator (for heterogeneous IT environments) are proposed as tools for data warehouses design, development and support.

Business intelligence and reporting tools embrace the whole range of analytical challenges and are delivered in three editions:

Oracle Business Intelligence Suite Enterprise Edition Plus — the most comprehensive portfolio of business intelligence and reporting tools. This suite combines and integrates the best software solutions historically created by Oracle, Siebel и Hyperion companies;

Oracle Business Intelligence Suite Standard Edition One — “the budget” version of Oracle BI Suite Enterprise Edition Plus tailored for small and medium-size businesses, incorporating core tools for building a comprehensive BI solution in a company;

Oracle Business Intelligence Standard Edition — “the traditional” Oracle analytical platform.

In addition to the technological platform Oracle offers ready-to-use business intelligence applications allowing to address specific business challenges:

Oracle Business Intelligence Applications — a portfolio of comprehensive, pre-built BI solutions that deliver intuitive, role-based intelligence for everyone in an organization (earlier known as Siebel Analytic Applications). The solution incorporates the ready-to-use data warehouse, tools for data loading from industrial transaction systems (including Oracle E-Business Suite), a corporate logical framework that implements the best business practices, as well as a wide variety of reports and interactive dashboards for all user categories on Oracle BI Suite Enterprise Edition Plus platform;

Financial Performance Management Applications — an integrated solution for corporate performance management based on Hyperion applications.

Business intelligence and data warehousing projects implemented by FORS — Development Center in 2005–2009

DPD Moscow office

In 2009 FORS implemented a BI-system based on Oracle Business Intelligence & Data Warehousing platform for the DPD Moscow office. As a result, an advanced analytical instrument for effective business management at all levels was created, with clear processes, correct and detailed information everyone can trust. Due to the visual data display on the dashboards, analytical indicators are available on-line, drawing attention to the data critical for the business.

Mortgage Housing Credit Agency

In 2009 FORS Development Center announced the completion of the first part of the project on implementation of the accounting analytical system based on Oracle Business Intelligence Suite Enterprise Edition (Oracle BI EE Plus) at the Mortgage Housing Credit Agency. By now, the system is fully put into the commercial operation. This BI-solution unique by its technological complexity has become the first in Russia and one of just a few implementations of the industrial realization of Oracle BI EE Plus solution in the cluster configuration in Europe.

Federal Financial Monitoring Service of Russia (Rosfinmonitoring)

FORS Development Center has been contracted by Rosfinmonitoring to implement projects since 2003. Currently the agency successfully runs the information systems designed by FORS specialists: the data warehouse for external information resources and integrated “Filing Cabinet”. In 2006 FORS Development Center implemented the Rosfinmonitoring data warehousing project.

Agency for Power Balance Forecasting

In 2007 FORS Development Center launched a business intelligence and data warehousing project. The purpose of the information system development is to improve performance of the Agency for Power Balance Forecasting by creating an integrated information resource that will allow to consolidate, to store and to present information to users for operational and analytical reporting as well as for short-term and long-term forecasting purposes.

Federal Customs Service of Russia

FORS has designed an information system to manage the Central Register of Foreign Economic Operators (CR SFO). The system is used to collect and to store agreed data on the operators who had ever entered into legal relationship with the customs authorities of the Russian Federation, as well as to provide the customs authorities with objective information on activities of foreign economic operators.

FORS has also designed an information system to manage the Central Register of Commodities. The system records reference (etalon) information on commodities crossing the state border and supplies data for customs clearance and customs control systems to verify information declared by foreign economic operators in their customs documentation. The system is also used to control enforcement of economic regulation measures and trade restrictions to a specific commodity as well as for other customs purposes.

Federal Drug Control Service of Russia

“Search” information subsystem is based on SPRUT-PLUS toolkit and allows to create an integrated data warehouse on the basis of heterogeneous information resources and to provide uniform access to the data to conduct a “through” search, to identify links between objects and to present results in a user-friendly manner.

Municipal Economy and Housing Department of the Moscow City Government

The Integrated Information and Billing Centers management system is designed to support provision of utility and housing billing services to legal entities. The system includes a district-level data warehouse and an operational reporting subsystem. In 2005-2006 the system was put into operation in the South-Eastern, North-Eastern and Central Administrative Districts.

OJSC "Lukoil"

In 2006 “Analytical Dispatcher Office” system was put into operation. The information system is designed to support timely collection and analysis of the enterprise performance indicators. It allows for flexible adjustment of reporting indicators, collection, consolidation and storage of data from all structural divisions of the company. The system also supports generation of operational and analytical reports.

Non-profit partnership "Wholesale Power Market Trading System Administrator"

The non-profit partnership runs the data warehousing system that allows to collect, to process and to analyze wholesale power market trading information. The system has been constantly evolving. In the context of transition to the new market model in 2006-2007 the 2nd component of the data warehouse was designed. In addition, selected analytical reporting tasks are supported by Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition.

OJSC “Capital–Insurance”

In 2007 FORS Development Center implemented a data warehousing project for OJSC “Capital-Insurance”. The primary aim of the project was to upgrade the company’s business intelligence and management performance by generating a consolidated information resource for operational and analytical reporting purposes and for uniform logical data presentation.
